Elton John Biography
Sir Elton John is an English singer, pianist, and composer. He is one of the most prolific musicians from our lifetime.
Early Years
Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight, on 25 March 1947, Elton John started playing the piano when he was 3 and at 11 he won a Royal Academy of Music scholarship. He was classified as a model student. Later on, he became a pub pianist.
Rocket Man
In 1967 he started his career as a songwriter under Liberty Records. Two years later, he debuted as a singer with the album Empty Sky. In 1970 John hit the jackpot with his iconic hit “Your Song”. Next up he issued albums like Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (1973) and Rock of the Westies (1975).
After the release of his single “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” (1996) featuring KiKi Dee, his music career went on hiatus ’till the release of album A Single Man (1979).
In 1981 Elton John released the album The Fox and soon after he performed a free concert in Central Park in New York. The musical genius assaulted the musical charts again with singles like “I’m Still sStanding” and “I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues” from the 1983 album Too Low for Zero.
The Legend
Over the next years, he continued to contribute greatly to the music world. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Axl Rose. One of his iconic hits, “Candle in the Wind”, has been rewritten to honour Princess Diana and the single sold over 33 million copies worldwide.
Other musical projects are albums like Songs from the West Coast (2001), The Diving Board (2013) and Wonderful Crazy Night (2016). Elton John wrote music for the musicals The Lion King and Aida, for the series Friends and the animation The Road to El Dorado.
